Descent 2 was released, as was the Playstation port of Descent. Descent 2 received great sales and acclaim. The most technologically-advanced title of its time, Descent 2 earned strong retail sales and became one of the most heavily OEM-bundled titles in history. It was one of the first titles to show off the full potential of hardware acceleration.

By mutual agreement of its founders, Parallax split into two closely-affiliated companies, Volition Inc. and Outrage Entertainment. Volition continued Parallax’s work on FreeSpace, an ambitious space action game with advanced mission structure and excellent hardware support.
