Temp Technical Artist - Writing Focused

Description

Volition, the THQ studio that developed the Saints Row and Red Faction franchises, is seeking an entry-level problem-solver to fill the role of Temporary Associate Technical Artist. The Associate Technical Artist will work with the Technical Art Director and production artists to help push the quality of content through the continued development of tools and pipelines for PS3 and Xbox 360 game development. Volition, Inc. is located in Champaign, IL. Relocation to Champaign is required at applicant’s expense.

Responsibilities

  • Design and assist in developing tools for Artists, Animators and Designers
  • Create supporting technical documentation to assist in the roll-out and training of new tools
  • Maintain and support existing tools and pipelines through hands-on support and technical documentation
  • Proactively seek out inefficiencies and problems in existing pipelines and identify potential solutions
  • Improve and enhance tools/processes throughout the project cycle
  • Contribute to asset integration when technical challenges need to be overcome
  • Assist in checking art content against technical guidelines prior to integration in the game

Qualifications

  • Experience with at least one major 3D software package (Max, Maya, XSI)
  • Must be able to work well with common scripting languages (MAX script, MEL script, Python, etc.)
  • Strong technical writing and training skills
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving skills
  • No experience necessary. However, must demonstrate technical aptitude, an eagerness to learn new skills and adapt to unique problems

Sample Work Required:

  • Samples, demonstrations or documentation of toolspipelines developed to overcome past challenges
  • Sample user documentation or videos of toolspipelines taught in the past
  • Art portfolio demonstrating a basic understanding of both digital and traditional art skills (Preferably via online or CD/DVD) is encouraged

All samples must be accompanied by a description of each, with specific information on what you were responsible for, what tools were used, etc.
